So much to know about Hemp and our world -

Industrial Hemp Information from Hemp Organic, Shirt Magic“Industrial hemp contains less than 1% of THC the psychoactive component of marijuana.  Trying to get high on industrial hemp is akin to trying to get drunk on non alcohol beer.

Hemp is the world's strongest natural fiber.  It has been used to make cloth and rope for over 10,000 years.  Hemp was the first crop ever cultivated for textile production.

Hemp cloth is stronger, longer lasting, more resistant to mildew, and cheaper to produce than cloth made of cotton.  Hemp ropes are known for their strength and durability.  The original Levi Strauss jeans were made from a hempen canvas. Even Old Glory was made from hemp fiber.

Hemp can be used to make virtually anything that is currently made of cotton, timber, or petroleum.  George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew hemp.  Ben Franklin owned a mill that made hemp paper. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper.  Until 1883, more than 75% of the world's paper was made with hemp fiber.

Henry Ford dreamed that someday automobiles would be grown from the soil.  In 1941 the Ford motor company produced an experimental automobile with a plastic body composed of 70% cellulose fibers from hemp.  The car body could absorb blows 10 times as great as steel without denting.  The car was designed to run on hemp fuel.”

Hemp grows well in a wide variety of climates and soils.  It requires far less fertilizer and pesticides than most commercial crops.

All parts of the hemp plant are useful.  Hemp can be used to produce everything from fuel to soap.   The oil from hemp seeds has the highest percentage of essential fatty acids and the lowest percentage of saturated fats.

Industrial hemp can yield 3-8 dry tons of fiber per acre.  This is four times what an average forest can yield.  It can replace wood fiber and help save our forests. Paper made from hemp lasts for centuries, compared to 25-80 years for paper made from wood pulp.

Hemp is the perfect source for fuel.  It produces more biomass than any other plant.

Today industrial hemp is cultivated in Canada, China, Russia, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, England, Poland, Romania and many other Eastern European countries."

Why wear hemp clothing?

Hemp fiber both insulates and conducts, allowing one to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is hypoallergenic and comfortable to wear.  Hemp fabric provides the garment wearer better protection to UV radiation than any other natural fiber.  Hemp fabric’s appearance is of a supple, rich, natural texture creating elegant fashion. Hemp is the strongest and longest natural fiber. It is also the most resistant to weather, mold, salt water, and sunlight. Its durable nature makes it an excellent choice for everything from rugged sportswear, to fashionable clothing.

Hemp clothing is a natural sunscreen enabling the wearer to avoid putting unnatural sunscreen potions on their skin. Additionally, hemp fabric is very resistant to degradation from abrasion and chemicals. Hemp is fully biodegradable.

Hemp is an excellent ecological alternative to environmentally destructive conventional cotton cultivation and synthetics. With its rich texture and natural look, hemp fabric has a distinct style that is desirable in today’s fashion.

The Hemp Seed
The Hemp Seed is truly amazing! So many things can be made or benefited from hemp, including our own human health. The uses of Hemp Oil which is obtained from the seeds, the beneficial nutrition that is found in Hemp Seeds and the realization of the possibilities of bio-mass fuel that can be best made using Hemp and its Seeds are all accurately and comprehensively explained in the following.

First, the Hemp seeds come from the flowering buds located at the top of the plant and at the end of the larger branches. The Seeds are fully developed after the pollen flowers have blossomed, they are easily obtained by shaking the plant. Depending on the size, each plant can produce from 500 to 25,000 seeds.

Hemp Seed Oil
Each seed contains about 30% oil which is exuded when the seeds undergo pressure. Hemp Seed oil has been used all throughout the world's history for such energy sources as lamp oil and cooking oil etc. Hemp seed oil has been found to burn the brightest out of all oils. The oil has other uses as well. Hemp oil is excellent for paints and varnishes because it dries quickly and doesn't require all the toxins and chemicals that most paints have today. Rembrandt painted many of his master pieces with hemp oil based paints. Hemp oil is extremely absorbent and with its high content of nutrients, it makes great skin care products. From chap stick, cosmetics, and lotion to shampoos and soaps, they all help make the skin and body externally more healthy. Hemp oil also makes excellent lubrication and has been used in precision engines.

Nutrition
The seed and its oil are extremely nutritious and if incorporated into everyday eating, it would benefit its consumer about a million different ways. The Hemp Seed is lowest in saturated fats and very high in polyunsaturated fats. It is the highest in total essential fatty acids and it contains all the essential amino acids. The seed is also 25% protein which provides an excellent source of vegetable protein, and it actually helps reduce cholesterol in the arteries, unlike the protein from animal meats. There are many different ways to consume the Hemp Seed, surprisingly it tastes good, and adds a distinct flavor to the foods it's cooked with. Many people eat the seed plain as well as prepare it with other foods. The seed oil makes wonderful salad dressings, and you can cook many things in just the oil itself. You can bake the seeds into brownies or cookies and other baked goods, sprinkle it on top of baked potatoes, or mix it with other fruits, nuts and raisins. The seed can also be ground up into a peanut butter paste, or it can be made into plain butter (the nutrient level of hempseed butter compared to regular butter is ridiculous!) The Hemp Seed can do anything and everything that the soybean can do. For example you could make a Hemp hamburger instead of a soy burger. Plus using the Hemp Seed instead of the soybean would greatly increase the nutritional values of the food. There are many ways and methods to eat the Hemp Seeds, and they are only limited by your imagination, so be creative and go make a Hemp pie if that suites you!

Bio-Mass Fuel
What is bio-mass fuel? Imagine the possibility of anyone that owns land can produce their own oil well, and supply all their own energy needs, from heat and electricity to fuel for their car. All of the nations nuclear and coal power plants could be converted to an environmentally healthy fuel to supply all the energy consumptions. That is exactly the reality that could come true if Hemp where taken advantage of fully. The world already produces almost 150 billion metric tons of bio-mass fuel a year, most of it comes from wild plant growth, trees, grasses, and several types of algae. Bio-mass fuel is made from the process of paralysis, this is where plant mass undergoes high heat in the absence of air or very little air, and is turned into a solid, condensed form that can supply large amounts of energy, much like charcoal or coal but it doesn't release as much toxins into the environment when burned. Bio-mass can be turned into several types of fuel, including gasoline, methane, charcoal etc. By making Hemp a national crop, you also produce a much cleaner fuel. With Hemp you could produce the same fuels we need today at a drastically reduced cost while positively affecting the environment too.

"Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?"

A New Continent
Marye Audet

“There is a new continent in the Pacific Ocean.
Actually it has been forming for years. It was documented in the 1950's. It is larger now, by some reports twice the size of Texas. And growing. The most amazing thing of all is the substance of the island.
Plastic. Trash. Junk. Mountains of trash that has not and will not biodegrade is trapped in an area roughly 10 million square miles in size. The North Pacific Gyre is an area of swirling currents moving in a clockwise pattern that the major ocean currents lead into. Think of it as an aquatic roundabout in heavy traffic- very difficult to get off of. Over time the plastics and trash that has been intentionally and accidentally (remember the Nike sneaker wash of 1990?) dumped into our oceans has found its way to the North Pacific Gyre and remains there. Accumulating at an alarming rate it is literally forming a continent made of trash.”
